As an avid stitcher who likes to take a project or two along when I travel, I have unfortunately lost more than my fair share of good scissors and tools at airport security because I forgot to take them out of my needlepoint project organizer before I left home and I didn't have checked luggage. I know someone at TSA airport security has atleast 3 pairs of my good gingher scissors! What is "sharp" to one security person, doesn't even get looked at by another. (And don't believe it when they said the regulations about scissors are more relaxed. That's how I lost my last pair of scissors!) So I came up with a pretty nifty travel kit that has what I need to stitch with, doesn't get nabbed by security and is reasonably priced. We call it our "Stitch On The Go" kit. Our little kit contains 7 must-have tools for stitching - all in a soft-sided 91/2" by 61/2" zipper pouch that can be tucked in a carry on bag. Each kit contains: 1)a pair of safety scissors that are sharp enough to cut, round enough to pass security and don't look like they belong to a 4 year old; 2) a bead topped wood laying tool; 3) a mini canvas weight (perfect to weight your canvas down on the drop-down airplane tray); 4)a small packet of needles, 5)a needlethreader and 6) one set of mini rare earth magnets to hold your needles on your canvas and 7) a magnifying glass to search for missed stitches (or to see the 18 mesh!). And you can choose the color of the zipper pouch!
